Second graders at CES recently had the opportunity to meet and learn from Deborah Freedman, the author of one of their new favorite books, The Blue Chicken. Ms. Freedman, who lives in Connecticut but has relatives in Corinth, visited CES and showed the students the step-by-step process that led to the writing, illustrating, and publishing of The Blue Chicken. The students learned that there is much more to publishing a children's book than writing the story and drawing the pictures and that even experienced authors must frequenty revise their work in order to make it extra special. After showing the students her writing process, Ms. Freedman read The Blue Chicken aloud and gave the students the opportunity to ask questions. Then, she stayed a while to autograph all of the "Blue Chicken" illustrations that the second graders had drawn in response to the story.
