Congratulations to Tiersten Washington: Rotary Student of the Month for May

Tiersten Washington, the daughter of Donna Luster and Edwin Washington, has been selected

as the Corinth Rotary Student of the Month for May for the Corinth School District. Tiersten has

a GPA of 3.75 and an ACT score of 25.

Throughout her high school career, Tiersten has earned numerous awards and honors. She

won the 3rd place award for Spanish III and Family Dynamics during the 2013-2014 school

year, and the 1st place award for Career Pathways Experience for the 2014-2015 school year.

Tiersten is the recipient of the Corinth Alumni Association Scholarship, valued at $1,000, the

Alcorn County Branch NAACP Scholarship valued at $550, the Bullard Book Scholarship valued

at $250, and the Mississippi University for Women Franklin Award, valued at $6,000.

During her four years of high school, Tiersten has been a very active member of the Corinth

High School Band. She was selected band historian for the 2012-2013 school year and color

guard captain for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years. She was selected by her band

directors to receive the Arion Award for the 2014-2015 school year. Tiersten has also been

selected for many awards voted on by CHS Band Students, including: Band Sweetheart for the

2014-2015 school year, Most Outstanding Color Guard for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015

school years, Most Dependable for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years, and Best

Attitude for the 2014-2015.

Active in school, church, and community organizations, during her high school career, Tiersten

has been a member of the Science Club, Foreign Language Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Future

Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Family

and Consumer Science Club, Girl Scout Heart of the South Troop #20334, Macedonia M.B.

Church Youth Choir (President), Macedonia M.B. Church Youth Praise Dance Team, Macedonia

M.B. Church Jr. Usher Board, and Macedonia M.B. Church Youth Department. With the

Macedonia Youth Department, Corinth High School Band, and Girl Scout Heart of the South

Troop #20334, she has completed 90+ community service hours through various projects that

include: Christmas care baskets, disaster clean-up, KC Picnic, the Crossroads Marching

Classic, Memorial Day flag layout at the National Cemetery, Breast Cancer Awareness

Programs, nursing home visits, and much more.

Tiersten will graduate with 9 hours of college mathematics and 8 hours of college science. After

graduation, she will attend Mississippi University for Women, where she will be a member of the

Ina E. Gordy Honors College. Tiersten plans to major in Nursing to become a Nurse Practitioner.
