Congratulations to Emma Knight: Rotary Student of the Month for September
Emma Knight is the 17 year old daughter of Alesha and Preston Knight. Emma attends Corinth High School where she is currently ranked first in her class of 140,. Last fall, Emma was awarded one of the first four medallions ever given to represent College and Career readiness in all subjects tested by Cambridge Secondary curriculum. She holds the position of Student Body President for the 2015-2016 school year. Outside of school, she is a captain and team member on the cross-country team, and she also runs track in the Spring. She has been All-State in cross country since she began running with the Lady Warriors her 9th grade year and recently lead her team to a State Championship in the fall of 2014. She holds an individual state championship in the 1600-meter in track as well as silver medals in the 800 and 1600 meters. She is an active member of the First Baptist Corinth youth group where she participates in VBS, Creative Arts and the Singing Christmas Tree, among other activities. She has gone on two mission trips to Haiti in 2014 and 2015 where she helped with Vacation Bible Schools in the area.
Throughout her high school years, she has been in numerous clubs including National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Interact, C Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council and will take on the role of President this year. Community service has been a large part of Emma’s high school career from cleaning the campus to renovating the Animal Shelter. She is a graduate of Junior Leadership Alcorn. During her time in JLA, she visited nursing homes, helped with can food drives, and was in charge of entering Coke Rewards codes.
As of now, Emma is planning to attend either UNA or Ole Miss to earn a degree in Chemistry and attend Pharmacy school following four years of undergraduate. At this time, UNA is actively recruiting Emma to be a member of the Lions Cross Country and Track team.
A fun fact is that Emma’s first racing medal and trophy came during her very first race - the Rotary 5K in 2011 when she came in 3rd in her age division. This was a big surprise but lead to many more races and medals in her future and possibly a chance to be a collegiate athlete. Her parents would like to thank the Rotary Club for getting her started in an endeavor that has changed her life.
