Corinth Students Spread Christmas Cheer

Corinth Students Spread Christmas Cheer

Corinth High School students visited residents at the Country Cottage last week to share some Christmas spirit and to showcase what it really means to be part of a community.

The idea first came about when Corinth’s Health Sciences students had a curriculum unit on growth and development. Mrs. Randi Stafford, manager at the Country Cottage, came to their class to speak about caring for the elderly. The students had the idea to visit the Cottage in December to bring some holiday cheer.

“We had lots of fun decorating Christmas cards to give to the residents,” said Emma Kate Marolt, a Health Sciences student. “We wanted to give them something to remind them they are loved.”

Corinth’s Culinary Arts students prepared cupcakes and hot chocolate for the residents.

“We had fun making cupcakes and sharing hot chocolate with the seniors at the Country Cottage,” said Damarien Patterson, a Culinary Arts student. “It's nice to be able to give back to the community.”

The students led an a cappella Christmas sing-a-long with such holiday favorites as “Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells.”

The event was a hit with both the residents and students. “Our trip to the Country Cottage each year is a highlight of the semester,” said Claire Williams, Health Sciences teacher at Corinth High School. “It is a great opportunity for the students to practice their communication skills, as well as use empathy to encourage and support our elderly population.”
