The Corinth High School Cheer squad has competed in the Game Day cheer division since 2018. Last year, they finished 2nd at the Mid-South Regional; 3rd at MHSAA State Championship; 2nd at the Deep South Rock n Roll Classic; and 7th out of 60 squads at the school’s first ever appearance at the National High School Cheerleading Championships (NHSCC) in Orlando, Florida. They have 16 girls returning from last year. This squad is led by eight seniors: Maggie Green, Anna Hudson, Aleigh Jordan, Blessin Kirksey, Angie Mai, Pierce Peterson, Katie Rose Shelton and Allison Wigginton. This year’s captains are Maggie Green, Anna Hudson, Blessin Kirksey and Pierce Peterson.
The 2022 University Cheerleaders Association (UCA) All-Americans are Maggie Green, Anna Hudson, Blessin Kirksey, Angie Mai, Pierce Peterson and Allison Wigginton. This honor is given to athletes who try out at UCA camp by performing a jump of choice, an All-American cheer and a camp routine dance. Once chosen, All-Americans perform at special events across the country and around the world.
Lesley Bain is starting her 7th year as the high school head cheer coach, and Brittanie Brown is starting her 5th year as the middle school head cheer coach. Coach Johnny Taylor with Taylor Built Champions is starting his 3rd year as the team’s choreographer.
The squad attended their first ever UCA Masters camp this summer. This invitation-only camp focuses on skill training to prepare squads for competition. According to Coach Bain, “There’s just something different about this squad. The girls are hungry and it shows! These girls cannot wait for Friday Night Lights to cheer on the football team. Our game day competition is just a continuation of what we do every Friday night. We want the state championship title and a bid to compete again at nationals. Our squad believes this is OUR YEAR!”
