The 2022 football season kicks off soon, and the Corinth Warriors open up on the road taking on the Saltillo Tigers in their first game of the season. Head Coach Justin Dye leads the Warriors for the 2022-2023 season as they hope to improve on last year’s 2-8 record.
Dye begins his second season and returning coaches for the 2022 season are Ivan Denton and Colin Harris. Joining the Warrior coaching staff this year are Andy Greening, Ryan Summers, and Terrell Pinson.
While reflecting on last season and looking to this season, Dye said, “We faced a lot of adversity last year as a team. Last year was tough on our team and we learned from our experiences. I expect us to have a much better season. This year you can expect to see a much more well-conditioned and experienced team.”
The Warriors return nine offensive and defensive starters from last year’s team. Twelve seniors lead Corinth as they face a strong non-division and Division 4 A schedule.
Returning offensive starters include Jake Brawner, Sam Dilworth, Hayden Robbins, and LaDomonic Brown.
Cregeen, the returning quarterback, leads the Warrior offense after completing 77/144 passes last season for 1312 yards with 8 interceptions. Cregeen was good for 14 touchdowns. Also returning for this year’s season are Broderick Alexander and Drew Williams who contributed nine touchdowns as they rushed for over 350 yards and hauled in 38 receptions for 675 yards. Defensive starters returning for the 2022 season are Kwaveon Tucker, Dicaybrion Blake, Jay Cummings, Chris Rodgers, Jaylon Stackins, Nick Woods, Drew Williams, Broderick Alexander, and Griffin Enis.
Heading up the Warriors defense is seniors Jay Cummings and Chris Rogers. These two returning starters combined for over 100 tackles during the 2021 season.
Eli Burciaga continues to handle the kicking and punting duties for the Warriors. Last season Burciaga averaged 37 yards a punt and completed 27of 29 PATs.
The Warriors have worked hard this spring and summer to prepare for the season. Dye said, “Summer has gone really well for our team. We have had great attendance and the guys worked extremely hard to get ready for the season. I could not ask for a harder working group of young men. It’s really exciting to see the growth in just the last few months of running and working out.” Corinth will travel to Kossuth for the second game of the season before matching up with the Tupelo Golden Wave for its first home game. Rounding out the non-division schedule will be Houston and New Albany before beginning the division schedule with Caledonia.
After missing the playoffs last year for the first time in many years, the Warriors are determined to be back in the playoffs come the end of the season.
Come out and enjoy Friday night football with an exciting Warrior team!
